Thanks for your question! It’s difficult to give you an exact time. It depends on the warmth of your kitchen and how fresh the yeast is. So it’s more by their appearance. Let them double in size and then bake. Should be about an hour or so. Hope this helps you!

Is there an egg wash on the pumpkin roll to give it that pretty shine? If so what are the steps in doing that part, thank you

Thank you for your question! The recipe says to brush them with butter after they are baked. But you could certainly use an egg wash if you wanted to make them “shinier”. Just whisk an egg and mix 1 tablespoon of water into it and brush on the dough before baking. Hope that helps! Enjoy!

Thanks for your question! Usually it’s best to put your rolls in the refrigerator to thaw overnight. The next morning they will be thawed and ready to raise. After they have doubled in size then it’s time to bake. Enjoy!

Thank you for your question! The bread dough is exactly the same recipe as the roll dough. If the recipe calls for dinner rolls, you make get 12 dinner size rolls from a loaf of bread dough. You can divide it into 8 larger rolls (Texas size) if you would like too also. Just let the dough thaw (it doesn’t need to rise) and then divide into the desire amount of dough. Follow the recipe and then let it raise. Hope this helps you!

How do you thaw the rolls without them rising ?

    reply
    • Debbie from Rhodes
      October 26, 2020

Thanks for your question! One way to thaw the rolls is to let them thaw in the refrigerator or to leave them, covered with sprayed plastic wrap, on your counter. Just watch them and when they are soft all the way through, you can work with them. They may rise a little but it won’t make too big a difference. They should have two rises. I think you could use a pretzel stick or a cinnamon stick for the stem. I think either of those would work and would look great. Hope that helps you! Enjoy!

(sorry about the all caps…for some reason it won’t allow me to do otherwise)
This won’t solve his nut allergy…but, I do have an alternative for others that will make it look more like a pumpkin….I used a whole cashew in each for the stem…looks more authentic.
This is the second time I’ve made them for Thanksgiving…they were a hit last year, and I was asked to make again.
I did the egg wash this time, instead of the butter and like the looks of that better as well.

Thanks for your question! All of our rolls should just double in size. If they over-rise, then the rolls will fill with air and collapse. So I don’t think it would be wise to let them get any bigger. Hope this helps you!

I have made these for years – they’re always a hit! I have used thin pretzel sticks for the stem and after baking suck a piece of parsley in for THE “leaf”.

Those look so flat! I always serve these rolls for the holidays but i always let mine rise a little more. From frozen I usually let them rise 3-4 hours. So not sure how I would do these I’ve never thawed the dough first. always just put them on the pan frozen, put the plastic wrap over them and let them rise while i’m doing other stuff in the kitchen.

You just want them to double in size while raising. That’s why we say to shape them when they are thawed but still cold. If they have risen and then you cut the rolls you run the risk of the rolls falling.

I love Rhodes bread and rolls dough. Im going to try making these pumpkin shape rolls for Thanksgiving. Im wondering why I can’t just put the Pecan in the center then bake them ? I thought it would enhance the flavor of the Pecan, then it would already be there, ready to serve. Thanks ! Happy Thanksgiving Y’all’s !
