Calzone

With frozen dough you can make an easy kid friendly meal that your whole family will love.
Ingredients
3 Rhodes Dinner Rolls, dough thawed to room temperature
1-2 tablespoons pizza sauce
1/4 cup grated mozzarella cheese
1 teaspoon minced onion
1/4 cup browned sausage
3-4 strips thinly sliced green bell pepper
3-4 pepperoni slices
Instructions
Spray counter lightly with non-stick cooking spray. Combine rolls together and roll into a 7-inch circle.
Spread pizza sauce on half of the circle staying one inch away from the edge. Cover pizza sauce with cheese. Sprinkle on onion and sausage. and green pepper evenly, then top with pepperoni.
Wet the edge of the dough with the fillings on it. Fold the other half of the dough over the filled half and use a fork to press edges together to seal. Cut a few half-inch holes in the top to vent. Gently lift and place on a sprayed baking sheet.
Bake at 350 degrees for 15-20 Minutes until golden brown. Serve with pizza sauce for dipping.
Freezer Meals
Complete the entire recipe. To freeze, let calzones cool completely, then wrap each individual calzone tightly in plastic wrap and place in a plastic freezer bag. This will keep calzones from freezing together.
Microwave
From frozen, wrap calzone in a damp paper towel and microwave 1- 1 ½ minutes.
Air Fryer
Wrap the calzone in foil. Air fry at 325ºF for 6-8 minutes.
Oven
Wrap the calzone in foil. Bake at 375ºF for 15-20 minutes.

Calzones are traditionally use a ricotta/mozzarella mixture. This is just a stromboli.

Thanks for your question! You could make the calazone and bake it and then freeze them. Once the dough is thawed it cannot be refrozen or it will damage the yeast and it won’t rise. So after freezing just cover them with aluminum foil and put them in a 350 degree oven until it is warmed through. Sometimes the sauce might make the bread a little soggy doing it this way, so you make want to try it beforehand if you’re entertaining. Hope this helps!

I freeze all the time…..I make meat pies, breakfast pies,fruit pies…..anything you can make a hearty pie WITH….except cream! The favorites are….Taco pie, hash brown pie, beef and cabbage pie…..individual pies, being just an old couple, a days cooking(with plenty of breaks) makes a month of meals! Also have chopped up pork chop,leftover baked potatoes mixed with chopped onion and salsa Verdi makes good ones,too!

Your reply interested me, so I looked up the difference. This is FROM Bon APPÉTIT: The major difference between a calzone and a stromboli is how they are folded and sealed before they are BAKED. A calzone is a “TACO”, while a stromboli is a “BURRITO”. Calzones and tacos are folded into a half moon shape. Stromboli and burritos are rolled.

Not true, fillings are custom in both, you can have any type of ingredient. It is the shape, size and seal that makes them different.

We called them Broughs. Cook hamburger with onion. Slice up cabbage (or use coleslaw mix) and mix with the meat mixture.
I make my dough into squares with the mixture in the middle. The Germans do triangle. Bake 350 for the until brown 15 minutes

Thanks for your question. Just let it thaw so you can roll it out. Then put the toppings on it and seal it and then I would let it rise for about 30-45 minutes. Hope this helps!

I use this dough for calzones. I Add the sauce to the calzone. I pUt them in my airfRyer, 5 minutes each side. The airfryer seems to make them fluffier.

Thank you for your question! You can certainly use the Loaf of Bread Dough. Thaw and then divide the loaf. One loaf= 12 Dinner Rolls. So you can get 4 calzones out of one loaf of bread dough.

When one fixes say calzonES if i would want to fix and freeze them how would i? Then how would i fix them out of the freezer?

Thank you for your question! You will have to assemble and bake them before freezing. After baking, let them completely cool and then wrap them in plastic wrap and I would probably then put them in a ziploc bag. Then when you are ready to serve, let the calzones thaw and rewarm let in the oven for about 10-15 minutes. I would probably cover them with aluminum foil if they are browning more then you want. Hope that helps!

I’m going to try to use this template to make what we in central Illinois call a beef roll. shaved drained beef cooked and seasoned, mozzarella cheese with beef au jus on the side for dipping…oh and sprinkle some sea salt on top before baking ❤️

Yes you can! Look on our website: http://www.rhodesbakenserv.com. That recipe might just use our Rolls. But you can substitute 1 loaf of our Bread Dough for 12 Dinner Rolls.

Texas size Rolls are 1 1/2 times the size of a Dinner Roll. So you would only need two Texas Rolls.
