Cast Iron Cinnamon Roll

Prep Time: 20 min.
Bake Time: 60 min.
Servings: 12
Difficulty: Intermediate

There are not many things better than a GIANT Cast Iron Cinnamon Roll.

Ingredients

18 Rhodes Yeast Dinner Rolls, dough thawed to room temperature
3 Tablespoons butter, melted
3/4 cup light brown sugar
5 teaspoons cinnamon

Icing
1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
3-4 Tablespoons milk
1 1/2 Tablespoons butter, softened
1/2 teaspoons vanilla or almond flavoring

Instructions

Combine rolls, on a lightly sprayed counter. Roll dough into a 10×24 inch rectangle. Brush with melted butter. Combine sugar and cinnamon and sprinkle evenly over butter. With a pizza cutter, divide the dough into 5 long strips 2 x 24 inches.

Starting from a 2 inch side, roll the first strip up, making a cinnamon roll. Place the roll at the beginning of the second strip, rolling the same direction. Repeat with remaining strips making one giant cinnamon roll. Roll loosely to leave room for the dough to rise out rather than up.

Place the roll in the center of a sprayed 9 inch skillet or cake pan. Cover with plastic and let rise until roll fills the pan.

Cover with foil to prevent over browning. Bake at 350 for about 50 minutes or until center is done. Remove foil and allow to brown about 10 minutes. Remove from oven and let rest.

Combine icing ingredients and spread over roll while still warm.

Baking Notes

This can be made on a pellet smoker, such as a Traeger Grill. Simply follow all instructions but bake only for 40-50 minutes, covering halfway through.

Can the cinnamon roll be done with the bread loaf instead of the pile of rolls?

Thank you for your question! You certainly can use the loaf of Bread to make that recipe. One loaf of bread is equivalent to 12 Dinner-size Rolls. So since this recipe calls for 18 Rolls you would use one and a half loaves of Bread.

You are right! It does take that long but if you can let it raise somewhere that’s warm, it won’t take as long. And you have already worked with the dough so it shouldn’t take as long maybe 2 hours or less. I can’t give you a exact time. Just watch it and bake it when it fills that pan.

I love your rolls and will never make from scratch again. We live in Florida and I place them in my sunny window. Takes 1 Hr to PROOF/Raise. Also, I used our Daughter’s portable space (med. Heat) heater by sitting the tray on a chair beside it & They popped RIGHT up in 45 minutes! Made sure it wasn’t too close to anything! Yum!

So happy you enjoyed them! Yes the warmer your kitchen is the faster they will rise.

Yes, this is a fun recipe. You can do individual Cinnamon Rolls, if you like. We have a great recipe for Cinnamon Rolls on our website http://www.rhodesbakenserv.com. And there are a lot of different recipes using our rolls which will help you with pan size and ingredients. Enjoy!

Thanks for your question! I would put it in the refrigerator overnight and let it set out for about a hour or so after that to let it finish rising. Then bake after it has fully risen.
